350 Turkish police removed in corruption probe

ANKARA, Turkey, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- Some 350 police officers were removed from the Ankara, Turkey, police department Tuesday as part of a corruption investigation, Dogan news agency reported.

The officers were working in the terrorism, intelligence, organized crime, financial crime, cybercrime and smuggling units, the Hurriyet Daily News reported.

About 80 of the officers were police chiefs and the remainder were in the lower ranks. The sweep also included the deputy head of Ankara's police forces.

As part of the probe, the sons of two ex-ministers and the general manager of state-owned bank Halkbank, were in custody, Hurriyet Daily News said.
