MEDINA, Saudi Arabia, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- A technical malfunction forced a Saudi Arabian Airlines plane to make an emergency landing in Medina Sunday, injuring 29 passengers, authorities said.

Saudia flight 2841 was landing at Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport when its right rear wheels system failed to come down, the Kuwait News Agency, KUNA, reported.

General Authority for Civil Aviation spokesman Khaled bin Abdullah Khaybari said 29 people were injured during the evacuation of the Boeing 767. Eleven of the injured were transported to a local hospital, while the rest were treated at the scene.

Saudia said in a statement that the plane had been leased and was transporting pilgrims from Mashhad, Iran, Middle East Online, MENA, reported.

A total of 315 people were on the plane at the time of the incident.
