The incident took place Wednesday in the West Bank village of Kafr Qaddum during a rally commemorating the 49th anniversary of the Fatah movement, local residents said.
The protesters marched toward the entrance of town where Israeli troops showed up and peppered the area with tear gas. One canister landed in the home of Said Jasir, who suffocated on the gas, Ma'an reported.
Jasir was taken to Al-Arabi hospital in Nablus where he died.
Local residents said there are weekly protests in Kafr Qaddum over the expansion of Israeli settlements.
