Third round of talks on Iranian nuke program begin in Geneva

GENEVA, Switzerland, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- New talks between Iran and six Western powers began Monday in Switzerland over how to implement an interim pact over Iran's nuclear program, officials say.

The third round of so-called expert-level talks include experts from Iran's nuclear, banking, oil and transportation sectors, Iran's semi-official Fars News Agency reported.

Meeting in Geneva, the Iranian delegation is led by Hamid Baeidinejab, director general for political and international affairs for Iran's foreign ministry. The experts team from the six Western powers are being led by Stephen Clement, an aide to European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton.

Four days of talks between Iran and the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council plus Germany, known as the P5-plus-1, ended Dec. 13 in Vienna.

The two sides decided to resume the talks after Christmas in a Dec. 22 telephone conversation between Ashton and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.
