Saudi prince faces execution in murder of Saudi citizen

JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- A member of Saudi Arabia's royal family could be executed for murder after the victim's father refused to pardon him, a top Saudi official says.

Crown Prince Salman, the kingdom's deputy premier and minister of defense, announced the decision in a message to Interior Minister Prince Muhammad bin Naif, Arab Press reported Sunday.

"Sharia shall be applied to all without exception," Salman said, noting "there is no difference between big and small, rich and poor."

King Abdullah had decreed the prince, who was not named, would be executed if a reconciliation could not be reached with the family of the victim, a Saudi citizen.

The father said he was not happy with the amount of blood money offered by a reconciliation committee.
