TURIN, Italy, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- Authorities put the Italian Alps on high alert for avalanches on Monday following the ninth avalanche-related death, which occurred during the weekend.

A 15-year-old boy was killed in an avalanche Sunday after he skied off course in Turin, Italy's ANSA news agency reported. He was the ninth person to die in heavy snow in the area in just four days.

A 25-year-old skiing with the teen was charged with manslaughter following the incident. No other information was reported in the case.

In central and southern Italy, the Civil Protection Agency has issued a flood warning. Heavy rains are expected to hit the region Monday.
