Women at the Great Mosque in Paris had been allowed to pray in the same room as men, although they were concealed behind a curtain. The mosque opened a separate room for women underneath the prayer hall this month, The Local.fr reported.
A group of women were barred from entering the main prayer room one Saturday last month.
Hanane Karimi, a member of the group, said there was a "violent outburst."
"Moving the women is unjustifiable. We want to talk about this decision," Karimi said.
Some women in the congregation said they prefer the new room.
