Car bomb explosion at Syrian school kills eight

UM AL-AMD, Syria, Dec. 22 (UPI) -- Six students were among eight fatalities reported in a car bomb blast near an elementary school in the Syrian province of Um al-Amd Sunday, state media said.

The bomb was detonated in front of a school compound. The blast injured 34 other people and caused significant damage to the school, the official Syrian government news agency SANA reported.

The opposition group, Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said five people died in the blast.
