OREBRO, Sweden, Dec. 16 (UPI) -- A Swedish mother was convicted of attempted murder Monday after trying to blow up herself and her two young children with a car bomb, prosecutors said.

The unidentified woman, age 40, was convicted and sentenced to mandatory psychiatric care after she admitted under a court-ordered mental health review she tried killing herself and thought her children "should go with her" in death, TheLocal.se reported.

It was not he woman's first brush with extreme violence. She killed her parents when she was 14 but because she was a juvenile she was not charged criminally, the report said.

Police said the woman parked her car outside Orebro in central Sweden, opened a canister of gasoline and lit it on fire. The resulting explosion and flames lightly burned the woman and her two children but somehow all three survived the incident.
