On Tuesday, the Bavarian town of Dietramszell's City Council voted on a measure Mayor Leni Grobmaier proposed to sever the long-ago link to the despotic Hitler, TheLocal.de reported.
However, the vote was split -- 8-8 -- leaving Hitler's honorary citizenship in the town intact.
"It would be a distortion of history, the whole debate is laughable," Council Member Traudi Frostl said.
Another member, Josef Hauser, said: "Honorary citizenship goes with death. It is all a very long time ago."
Meanwhile, the nearby town of Munsing carried out a similar vote and revoked Hitler's honorary citizenship without discussion or opposition.
