30 dead in Syrian bombing attack on Aleppo

ASSAD, Syria, Dec. 15 (UPI) -- Thirty people died Sunday after Syrian air force helicopters bombed Aleppo, opposition leaders said.

The helicopters dropped so-called barrel bombs on the city, injuring an unspecified number of people, and destroying homes and vehicles, a statement from the Syrian Revolutionary General Commission said.

The injured were taken to field hospitals as firefighting crews worked to tame the flames resulting from the bombs, the Andalou Agency of Turkey reported.

The attack marks the second day of barrel bomb drops by President Bashar Assad's regime on the Aleppo region.
