North, South Korea to meet over upgrades to Kaesong industrial park

SEOUL, Dec. 13 (UPI) -- Officials from North and South Korea will meet next week to discuss upgrades to a jointly operated industrial park, an official said Friday in Seoul.

Some 30 representatives from the world's 20 leading economies and financial organizations will tour the park on the same day, South Korea's Yonhap News Agency reported.

Kim Eyi-do, a spokesman for South Korea's Unification Ministry, said the meeting would be held Thursday at the facility in the North Korean border city of Kaesong.

The delegation taking part in the tour will be comprised of government vice ministers and officials from the International Monetary Fund and the Asian Development Bank, Kim said. The group will be in Seoul for a conference the same week.

Next week's talks will be the fourth scheduled since Pyongyang shut down the facility in early April.

Talks scheduled for September were canceled by North Korea.

The date for next week's talks was set by North Korea and South Korea agreed to it, Kim said.
