CAIRO, Dec. 13 (UPI) -- Cold weather in Cairo reduced the number of demonstrators supporting the Muslim Brotherhood and ousted Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi Friday, officials said.

Low numbers of people left Cairo's main mosques to join the protests in rain and temperatures of about six degrees Celsius (43 degrees Fahrenheit), the Egyptian news website Ahram Online reported.

The Pro-Legitimacy and Anti-Coup Coalition, Egypt's major Islamist alliance, called on supporters to demonstrate Friday in solidarity with protesting university students.

A pro-Morsi protest by students near the defense ministry in Cairo was dispersed with tear gas and water cannon by police Thursday. Ahram Online said dozens of students were arrested.
