Dec. 10 (UPI) -- As the term of current Lebanese President Michel Sleiman approaches its end this year, political figures in Lebanon have expressed concern that failure to elect a new leader to the post could result in the country's ruin.
“Presidential elections are more than necessary,” Berri said.
“All lawmakers must attend the session to elect a new president, even those traveling abroad.”
Lebanon is currently without a government since Najib Mikati resigned in March. The Lebanese parliament has also extended their tenure that was supposed to end over the summer of 2013.
Meanwhile, Parliament Member Ahmad Fatfat of the Future Movement has said his political bloc has yet to decide on a candidate.
"March 14 forces are holding intensive contacts to reach to a single candidate," he said.
