ISTANBUL, Turkey, Dec. 10 (UPI) -- Turkey's parking authorities plan to turn ferries into floating, multistory parking lots to alleviate Istanbul's parking problems, officials said.

The city's parking authority announced plans to turn inactive ferries into floating garages to be anchored near the city's hot traffic spots, the Hurriyet Daily News reported Tuesday.

The first floating parking lot will be near the city's Marmaray railway station under the Bosporus Strait, connecting the city's European and Asian sides, the paper said.

The floating garages will be open around the clock, with each ferry providing parking spaces for 400 cars in addition to cafes and shops, the parking authority said.
