Fire in farm produce market kills 15 in China

BEIJING, Dec. 11 (UPI) -- Fire broke out early Wednesday at a wholesale produce market in China, killing at least 15 people and injuring five more, fire officials said.

The fire at the Rongjian farmers market in Shenzen city in southern China's Guangdong province began about 1 a.m. and quickly engulfed a 10,800-square-foot area.

It took about 2 hours for 145 firefighters to put out the blaze, Xinhua News Agency reported.

Rescue workers were at the scene looking for any survivors in the debris, the report said.

Other details about the incident were not immediately available. The condition of those injured was not known.
