World War II bomb weighing more than 1 ton dug up in Belgrade, Serbia

BELGRADE, Serbia, Dec. 8 (UPI) -- A large bomb dropped on Belgrade by a German bomber during World War II was removed from a downtown construction site, a Serbian government official said.

The bomb, which weighed more than a ton, was safely extricated from the Budimska Street work site about 11 p.m. Saturday, Predrag Maric, head of the Serbian Interior Ministry's Emergency Management Sector, told the news agency Tanjug. Workers came upon the bomb about 20 feet below the surface.

Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic said the bomb was to be transported to a military training ground in Nikinci to be destroyed, Tanjug reported.
