Anti-Muslim graffiti found on Israel mosque wall

BAQA AL-GHARBIYA, Israel, Dec. 8 (UPI) -- Israeli police are investigating who wrote anti-Muslim slogans on the walls of a mosque in northern Israel and smashed car windows, officials said.

Police described the incident as an alleged "price tag" attack, the name given to suspected right-wing Jewish extremists who vandalize Palestinian property, Army Radio reported.

The slogans, "Mohammed is a pig," "terror stones" and "mutual responsibility" were spray-painted on the walls of the mosque in the Haifa district village of Baqa al-Gharbiya, officials said.

Village residents discovered the incident Sunday morning, Ynetnews.com reported.

Windows in cars parked about 2 miles from the mosque were also smashed, Army Radio said. Police were investigating if there was a link between the incidents.

Sheikh Kiri Achsander, the imam of the mosque, said Muslim worshipers discovered the graffiti after early-morning prayers. "These types of incidents keep happening again and again. ... Unfortunately the government still does not take proper care of such incidents, thus encouraging racists to continue actions," he told Ynetnews.com.
