10 injured in protests in Turkey

DIYARBAKIR, Turkey, Dec. 8 (UPI) -- At least 10 people were injured Sunday in Turkey in a march during which protesters accused police of killing two demonstrators two days earlier.

The demonstration n Diyarbakir province was organized by the Peace and Democracy Party in order to protest the deaths of Veysel Isbilir, 34, and his nephew, Mehmet Resit Isbilir, 32, Friday, the Dogan News Agency reported.

The two men died from gunshot wounds allegedly at the hands of police during a spontaneous protest in Yuksekova over the vandalizing of graves belonging to members of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, the news agency said.

Peace and Democracy Party co-chair Selahattin Demirtas called on Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to apologize for the deaths of the two protesters in Yuksekova.

Police fired tear gas and water cannons at marchers Sunday, injuring 10 people, including four security officers and a journalist, Dogan News Agency reported.
