BAGHDAD, Nov. 28 (UPI) -- A string of bombings and gunfire across Iraq Thursday killed at least nine people and left 29 others injured, authorities said.

Police said a roadside bomb in Mahmoudiyah killed two people and wounded three others, a second roadside bomb in Mashahda claimed the life of one person and wounded nine, and a third roadside explosion in Baghdad killed one civilian and wounded six, China's official Xinhua News Agency reported.

Gunmen in Mosul shot and killed two members of the Yazidi religious minority and wounded a third, a police source told Xinhua. Iraqi security forces returned fire and one police officer was wounded in the confrontation.

The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq says nearly 7, 000 Iraqis died and more than 16,000 others were injured in violence from January to October.
