JERICHO, West Bank, Nov. 26 (UPI) -- A mass wedding of 200 brides and 200 grooms will be held Dec. 6 in Jericho in the West Bank, the sponsoring foundation announced.

The event, underwritten by the Khalifa Bin Zayed Humanitarian Foundation, based in Abu Dhabi, was called "Palestine's biggest national wedding party" by the Executive Office of the Palestinian Refugees in the West Bank.

The ceremony is designed to serve refugee camp residents, the majority of whom have been engaged to be married for years but have suffered financial hardships, the Dubai-based, English-language newspaper Gulf News reported Tuesday.

"The mass wedding will be held at the Jericho Intercontinental [hotel] and preparations are under way," wedding coordinator Jamal Abu al-Lail said.
