Plane lands on its belly in Vietnam after wheel system fails to work

BUON MA THUOT CITY, Vietnam, Nov. 26 (UPI) -- A Vietnam Airlines plane landed on its belly at an airport in Buon Ma Thuot City after its wheel system failed to work, an airline spokesman said.

The pilot of the plane, which had taken off from Da Lat, notified the local air traffic control station of the situation before the landing, Tuoi Tre News reported.

The airport then organized police, a fire brigade and rescuers to be on hand, but the plane landed safely at 4:20 p.m. Monday.

The nine people on board sustained no injuries, Tuoi Tre News reported.

The plane, a King Air 200, is usually used for calibration, search and rescue, photography and ecological surveys.

Authorities said they are investigating the incident.
