In Madrid, protesters read out a manifesto that stated the government is incapable of getting the country out of an economic depression.

The manifesto also highlighted a lack of employment opportunities and the hardship of state workers who are no longer receiving free healthcare.

The 2014 budget includes cuts to public services, education and social programs, the protesters said, while taxes are set to stay high.

The largest protest took place in Murcia, where 70,000 people took part, Think Spain said.
