Mount Etna calms down after erupting

CATANIA, Italy, Nov. 18 (UPI) -- Mount Etna in eastern Sicily calmed down on Monday after erupting over the weekend, authorities said.

The volcano began spouting lava Saturday evening, Italy's ANSA news agency reported.

On Sunday, lava was seen spilling over Mount Etna's lip, however, most of the volcanic activity was contained to the area near the summit.

This weekend marked Mount Etna's 16th eruption this year. The volcano erupted five days before this weekend's activity.
