Bombings, shootings kill 23, wound scores in Iraq

BAGHDAD, Nov. 18 (UPI) -- A wave of bombing and shooting attacks in Baghdad and elsewhere in Iraq left at least 23 people dead and 74 others wounded, police said.

At least 14 people were killed Sunday in bombings in various neighborhoods of Baghdad, China's Xinhua News Agency reported Monday.

In one of the worst attacks in the capital city, a car bomb in the Husseiniya area killed four people and wounded 11, police said.

Outside Baghdad, nine people were killed and 21 wounded in shootings and bombings, including two suicide attacks, in northern and central Iraq Sunday.

The deadliest attack occurred in the northern city of Tuz-Khurmato where two suicide bombings and 12 coordinated roadside blasts killed five people and wounded 15, a police official said.

The U.N. Assistance Mission for Iraq said nearly 7,000 Iraqis were killed and more than 16,000 injured through October.
