ISLAMABAD, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- Pakistani Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said former President Pervez Musharraf will be tried for violating the constitution and detaining judges.
An inquiry committee formed to evaluate possible charges against Musharraf submitted its report Sunday, ruling the former leader should be tried, Geo TV News reported.
The committee is scheduled to submit a report to the Supreme Court Monday asking for judge from one of each of three High Courts to be included in a commission to formally try Musharraf, the Pakistan Tribune reported.
In addition to attempting to fire the higher judiciary in 2007, Musharraf, in separate cases, has also been accused of ordering a crackdown on the pro-Taliban Red Mosque in Islamabad, in which imam Abdul Rashid Ghazi and his mother, Sahib Khatoon, were killed.
He is also accused of ordering the assassinations of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and Baloch tribal leader Nawab Akbar Bugti.
Musharraf was in self-imposed exile for five years, but returned earlier this year to run in the general election, from which he was ultimately banned.
