LONDON, Nov. 12 (UPI) -- British Prime Minister David Cameron announced Monday he will be leading a trade delegation to China in December.
Cameron, speaking at the Lord Mayor's banquet in London, called for "a more commercial foreign policy," the Financial Times reported. Business Secretary Vince Cable was in Moscow on Monday with a trade delegation while Cameron, in London, met with the family of Philip Ball, currently jailed in Russia after the seizure of the Greenpeace ship Arctic Sunrise.
In May, Cameron angered the Chinese government by meeting with the Dalai Lama. He visited China in 2010.
In his speech, Cameron suggested Britain can be most effective as an advocate for human rights if it has strong long-term relationships built on mutual economic interest with countries such as Russia and China. He promised his visit to Beijing would "forge a relationship that will benefit both our countries and bring real rewards for our peoples."
