MOSCOW, Nov. 7 (UPI) -- Russia has blacklisted 85,000 websites over the past year, and 98 percent of the sites were blocked without a valid reason, a study indicates.
Russian authorities are able to block websites that promote suicide, illegal drugs or child pornography without a court order.

The blocking is often done using the website's IP addresses, which are often shared by a number of sites -- all of which become blacklisted as a result.
The study, completed by Rublacklist.net, indicated that the government blocked 741 IP addresses over the past year.
More than 83,000 websites were blacklisted inadvertently as a result, RIA Novosti reported.
The government did not comment on the reports.
