BAD KLOSTERLAUSNITZ, Germany, Nov. 6 (UPI) -- A German spa has apologized for advertising a "Kristallnacht" promotion on the 75th anniversary of the 1938 Kristallnacht of anti-Jewish terror.
The Kristall Sauna-Wellness Park in Bad Klosterlausnitz, Thuringia, is still offering its promotion, the magazine Der Spiegel reports. But it is now billed as a "long romantic evening."
On the night of Nov. 9, 1938, members of Nazi paramilitary groups and ordinary Germans attacked Jewish homes, businesses, synagogues and schools, using sledgehammers to break glass and destroy buildings. Thousands of Jews were arrested and 91 killed in what became known as Kristallnacht or the Night of the Broken Glass.
The spa's Kristallnacht advertisement generated an angry response online. It responded by changing the notice on its website and issuing an apology on Facebook for its "insensitive and extremely inappropriate" wording.
The spa said it frequently uses the word "kristall" in promotions, referring to the clear water it offers.
