Multiple explosions occur outside Communist Party building in China

Nov. 5, 2013 at 10:25 PM

TAIYUAN, China, Nov. 5 (UPI) -- Multiple blasts outside the Communist Party's provincial office building in Taiyuan Wednesday left one person injured, local police said.

The city's public security bureau said the explosions occurred about 7:40 a.m. outside the offices of the Shanxi Provincial Committee of the Communist Party, the state-run Xinhua News Agency reported.

A witness, Liu Guoliang, told the news agency he heard a loud bang and saw heavy smoke and flames as he was driving nearby.

Xinhua said the explosions were suspected to have been caused by homemade bombs because steel beads littered the scene.

Police had cordoned off the area while they investigated, the news agency said.
