British police seek man who donned burqa to dodge surveillance

LONDON, Nov. 4 (UPI) -- British counter-terrorism police say they are looking for a man who escaped their surveillance by donning a burqa.

The man, Mohammed Ahmed Mohamed, was last seen Friday afternoon at a west London mosque, The Guardian reported Sunday.

Police released security video images that showed him wearing what they described as "traditional Islamic clothing."

He was under a Terrorism Prevention and Investigation Measure that restricted his movements and his ability to communicate or associate with others. The orders are used for people who cannot be tried for reasons of national security or who cannot be deported.

Mohamed, 27, who was born in Somalia, was not considered a direct threat to the public, Scotland Yard said in a Statement.

His photograph was published nationwide and the public was asked for help in locating him after a court lifted an anonymity order Saturday.
