Turkey denies helping Israel in raid on Syria

ISTANBUL, Turkey, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- Turkey denied it played a role in the apparent Israeli air attack on a military base inside Syria this week.

Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutogu Friday rejected Israeli media reports that Turkey provided intelligence to the Israelis about the targeted base near Latakia.

Latakia was believed to be a depot for missiles that Israel feared could be turned over to Hezbollah.

"Those (reports) are attempts to cast a shadow on the Syrian people's rightful struggle and Turkey's attitude with principles," Davutogu said. "It is out of the question for us to participate in any common operation."

The Hurriyet Daily News said Davutogu made the statements Friday during a joint news conference with the foreign minister of Iran, a close supporter of Syrian President Bashar Assad.
