People holding foreign or Egyptian passports, as well as patients seeking medical treatment in Egypt or abroad, were given priority at the crossing.

Barakat al-Farra, the Palestinian ambassador to Egypt, said Wednesday the crossing would be open from Saturday to Thursday under an agreement reached with the Egyptian authorities.

The reason for closing the crossing was not reported.
