JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- South African prosecutors said they will charge Oscar Pistorius with two additional crimes: reckless and negligent discharge of a firearm.
Pistorius, a double amputee Olympic runner, is accused of killing his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, at his Pretoria home.
He has claimed that he thought Steenkamp was an intruder.
The National Prosecuting Authority said Tuesday that its new head, Mxolisi Nxasana, turned down the defense team's attempt to block the two additional charges.
He also agreed to consolidate the charges Pistorius is facing to allow all the accusations to be heard in the same court, The Citizen reported.
Pisotrius is also facing charges of murder and illegal possession of ammunition.
A new indictment is expected to be served within the next few days, the Eyewitness News said.
