Blasts in Dagestan kill 1, injure 13

MAKHACHKALA, Russia, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- Two explosions in Russia's North Caucasus region rocked Dagestan Wednesday, killing at least one person and injuring several more, police said.

The explosions were in stores in Dagestan's capital, Makhachkala, the state-backed RIA Novosti news service reported.

The Russian Emergencies Ministry said 13 people had been hospitalized with injuries following the blasts. Three law enforcement members were among the injured though it was not clear if they were the target of the attack.

The region has been a hotbed of terrorist activity in recent years, RIA Novosti said. No group had come forward to claim responsibility for the attack.
