9 Brotherhood members arrested for allegedly planning police attacks

Oct. 30, 2013 at 11:05 AM

CAIRO, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- Egyptian authorities say they arrested nine Muslim Brotherhood members allegedly planning to commit violence during the trial of former president Mohamed Morsi.

The Brotherhood is planning demonstrations for Friday and again Monday when the trial is to begin.

Members are also assuring Morsi supporters he will not be jailed, al-Masry al-Youm reported.

The nine members were arrested at an Oct. 6 meeting, where they were allegedly preparing for attacks against the police and armed forces, the Egyptian newspaper said.

A preliminary investigation indicated Muslim Brotherhood leader Essam al-Erian was instructing the group on the attacks, al-Masry al-Youm said.
