JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- Police in Saudi Arabia said they have arrested five people in the rape of a 3-year-old girl who has been in a coma since the assault last month.

The toddler was left in front of a hospital Sept. 13, badly abused and bleeding from the vagina. A witness at the hospital told investigators he saw a car speed away from the hospital after leaving the child at the front entrance, Gulf News reported Wednesday.

Three men and two women were taken into custody in the Red Sea city of Jeddah after police opened a nationwide investigation. Officials have not released the identities of those arrested or said what evidence linked them to the crime.

Hospital officials said the girl slipped into a coma shortly after being dropped off and has not recovered.
