Millions stolen in Libyan bank truck heist

SIRTE, Libya, Oct. 29 (UPI) -- Thieves stole a truck containing millions destined for the Central Bank of Libya branch in the city of Sirte, authorities said.

The haul included 53 million Libyan dinars ($45.05 million) and about $12 million in foreign currency, the Libyan news agency LANA said.

The truck carrying the cash was intercepted by 10 men in two vehicles on the road from Tripoli airport to Sirte, 463 kilometers (287 miles) away, the Libya Herald reported Tuesday.

No injuries were reported.
