Seven inmates killed in knife fight at Mexican prison

CUIDAD VICTORIA, Mexico, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- Seven people were killed and two were injured in a fight between knife-wielding inmates inside a Mexican prison, officials say.

The disturbance occurred Saturday evening at the Altamira prison in the state of Tamaulipas, It was reported under control within an hour, CNN said.

The fight, which involved homemade weapons, started after inmates from one area of the prison illicitly entered another area.

Some 31 inmates died and another 13 were injured in a riot at the prison last year, CNN said.
