Curfew in Damaturu, Nigeria, following Boko Haram raid

DAMATURU, Nigeria, Oct. 25 (UPI) -- Suspected Boko Haram militants raided a Damaturu, Nigeria, hospital and engaged security forces in a 7-hour gun battle, witnesses said.

Residents in the relatively peaceful city said the Islamist militant group stole drugs from the hospital Thursday and drove off in ambulances.

Gunfire rocked the city for hours, the BBC said, and clashes between militants and security forces spread to other parts of the city.

A health worker said he saw a police vehicle taking corpses to a mortuary. No death count was reported.

The Nigerian military imposed a 24-hour curfew in the city and the surrounding northeastern state of Yobe following the attacks, the (Lagos, Nigeria) Newspaper P.M. News reported.
