Italian Coast Guard rescues 127 migrants from fishing boat

LAMPEDUSA, Italy, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- The Italian Coast Guard rescued some 127 migrants from a troubled fishing boat off the island of Lampedusa, officials said Thursday.

The fishing boat was first seen by a police patrol boat about seven miles south of Lampedusa, Italy's ANSA news agency reported.

The migrants were transferred from the fishing boat on to two Coast Guard vessels heading towards Lampedusa, authorities said.
