CAIRO, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- Egypt plans to end its state of emergency next month but a nighttime curfew in Cairo and other areas may remain in effect, an official said.
The emergency period will likely end in November, after being in place three months, because it can only be extended with a national referendum, the unnamed government official told Ahram Online.

The decision to lift the curfew lies with security officials and the Defense Ministry, the report said.
The curfew was imposed Aug. 14 but has been gradually relaxed. It now runs from midnight until 5 a.m. every day but Friday when it starts at 7 p.m.
