NANJING, China, Oct. 19 (UPI) -- The mayor of Nanjing in eastern China has been removed from office amid a crackdown on corruption within the Communist Party of China, officials said.
The CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection revealed Thursday that it was investigating Ji Jianye, China's state-run Xinhua News Agency reported.

The Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee later voted to remove Ji from office.
No details of the case have been revealed.
The CPC has been conducting an anti-corruption drive since Chinese President Xi Jinping took office in November, the BBC reported.
Xi has warned that public anger over corruption could lead to the end of the Communist Party of China.
