South Africa has stalled a French judge's request to talk to an exiled Rwandan general about the death of Rwandan President Juvenal Habyarimana, officials say.
A formal request by anti-terrorist investigator Marc Trevidic was filed in June 2012, Radio France Internationale reported Friday.
Trevidic wants to interview Gen. Kayumba Nyamwasa about his role in a 1994 plane crash in Rwanda in which Habyarimana and two French pilots died. The general says he has proof that President Paul Kagame was involved.
At the time of Habyarimana's death, Kagame was leader of a rebel group, the Rwandan Patriotic Front.
Nyamwasa was head of RPF intelligence and the subject of an arrest warrant over his alleged role in the death of Habyarimana. He said last July he was willing to talk to Trevidic.
A representative of the South African Foreign Affairs ministry declined to comment on the status of the French request. France's Justice Ministry also declined to comment.
