Canadian police unsure if body in cemetery linked to double homicide

Oct. 16, 2013 at 11:36 AM

ST. JOHN'S, Newfoundland, Oct. 16 (UPI) -- Canadian police said Wednesday they can't confirm a body at a Canadian cemetery is linked to a double homicide that sparked a manhunt and closed three schools.

The body was found at a cemetery in St. John's, Newfoundland, about nine miles from a shopping center in Conception Bay South where a man and a woman were found shot dead Tuesday night, CBC News reported.

Police began a massive search for a possible suspect, with a dragnet spanning several neighborhoods and shutting down a major road for several hours.

Residents were urged to stay inside and lock their doors. Officials ordered three schools in the area to close Wednesday.

Police said they were seeking a man they described as a person of interest who they said knew both of the victims in the shopping center shooting.

The woman was found shot inside a health clinic, while the man was shot outside.
