Two charged in death of Chinese boy, 2, left on school bus

BEIJING, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- Two people, including the driver of a school bus, have been arrested following the death of a child left on a bus more than half a day, Chinese officials say.

Both of them have been charged with neglect of duty and causing the death of a 2-year-old boy, the official Chinese news agency Xinhua reported Tuesday.

The other person arrested was responsible for all the children on the bus.

Investigators said the child was left unattended Monday at a kindergarten in Shizi Township in central China's Hubei province.

When the children got off the bus, the person in charge of the infants walked them to the school. The 2-year-old was not seen because construction material blocked the view of the bus, investigators said

The driver parked the bus at a nearby Internet cafe and went home. He discovered the child in a coma when he returned about 3:30 p.m. to take the children home.

The boy later died at a hospital.

A cause of death was not given.
