Knife-carrying Buckingham Palace intruder arrested

LONDON, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- A knife-carrying man who attempted to enter Buckingham Palace was arrested, London's Metropolitan Police Service announced Monday.

The unidentified man, 44, attempted to enter through the north center gate of the palace late Sunday night but was stopped immediately, police said in a statement, noting the concealed knife was found after he was searched.

There were no injuries in the incident, but the intruder was arrested on suspicion of trespassing on a protected site and possessing an offensive weapon, the British Broadcasting Corp. said.

A statement from Buckingham Palace stressed Queen Elizabeth II was not at home at the time.
