MOSCOW, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Moscow police detained more than 1,200 people at a vegetable warehouse that was a target of anti-migrant rioters, officials said Monday.

The Health Ministry said 23 people sought medical assistance during the violence. Law enforcement officials said six riot-police officers were injured.

Officials said helicopters and police officers were deployed to Biryulyovo Sunday as crowds rushed police barricades and local businesses, including the vegetable warehouse, Ria Novosti reported.

A Russian man was knifed to death last week by a suspect believed by rioters to be non-Russian, the report said.

"During a preventative raid on a vegetable warehouse in the Biryulyovo district, about 1,200 people were taken to police precincts to be checked for involvement in criminal activity," a police representative said.

Police said 380 other people were arrested during overnight disturbances but most would be released without charges.

Whether the people detained in the warehouse would face charges was not known, RIA Novosti said.
