Eight detained over Kenya mall attack, no charges filed

NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- Police said they have detained a student in their ongoing investigation of the terror attack at the Westgate Shopping Mall in Nairobi, Kenya.

The name of the student is not being released, Capital FM reported Wednesday, and the suspect has been turned over to the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit.

The role the student allegedly may have played in the attack is not being released.

"The investigation is wide, we will not reveal all that we have, but I can confirm that the student is under investigations over the matter," Police Chief Samuel Anampiu said.

Eight suspects are in custody, but no charges have been levied.

Investigations have revealed that the four to six men who perpetrated the attack died during the siege, which killed 61 civilians and six security officers.

Police are also looking for two men, Abdikadir Haret Mohammed and Adab Dheq, who purchased a car to transport attackers and explosives to the mall.
