KARACHI, Pakistan, Oct. 5 (UPI) -- Police in Karachi, Pakistan's largest city, said at least eight suspected professional killers were arrested Saturday in raids aimed at organized crime.

Three raids were carried out in Karachi, which is also the country's principal port, Dawn News reported. Police said they seized a small arsenal of weapons, including five sub-machine guns, 12 pistols and four rifles, Kalashnikovs and bullet-proof vests.

The raids were carried out by the Rangers, a paramilitary national force, with assistance from Karachi police, officials said.

The city has become known for criminal violence, including kidnappings for ransom, and assassinations.
